whispering spring

Spring is coming in small tinny whispers. We feel it in the air, watching the snow melting slowly, feeling the sun on our faces, hanging the clothes outside to dry.

(a week between the first and second picture. See the difference? - more pictures here)

My gardenia is blooming in my living room. I am making gardenia tea listening to this.
A Sunday smile to you

getting ready for Easter and a simple cookie recipe

Getting ready for Easter...which means making decorative easter eggs, an idea I found here; we've put some candy in the balloons before blowing them up -it's much more fun this way,
isn't it? Well, my kids thought so!
Of course one has to destroy the egg to get the candy, but yeah, who needs an easter egg after Easter anyway. Getting ready for Easter, also means, a lot of baking. I am using a pretty simple, but very delicious recipe to make enough cookies to give away to friends and family. Which is much more fun that eating them all alone. Isn't it?

Otherwise, Easter time in Norway is all about going skiing (surprise surprise), reading crime novels and watching crime series on the telly (believe it or not). And that's, more or less, what we'll be doing this week...

Happy Easter everybody!

simple cookies recipe

100 g butter, melted
100 g sugar
200 g flour ( 150g wheat flour - 50 g spelt flour)
1 egg

Melt butter and stir in the sugar. Add the flour and crumble together. Finish by kneading in the egg. Roll out the dough until it is about 1cm thick. Cut up (I used a tea cup upside down) and place on a plate covered with baking paper (you can sprinkle with lavender and/or pearl sugar)
Bake at 180 C for 10-15 min.

 Enjoy!

Blossoming (inside) and something about talent

All people have talent, some write good, some draw good, some hug in a wonderful way, some take good pictures, some are really good with kids, some have a lovely voice (those I envy), some are good talkers and some are good listeners (a great talent), some make you a cup of coffee when you mostly need one, some love you.
Talent doesn't have to do with being creative. It has to do with being human.

Onkel Vanja _NasjonalTeater

Last week I was in Oslo in the National Theater and watched Uncle Vanya with friends we share a love for art, in all its expressions but also -and that somehow is even more important- a love for chatting over a glass of wine. It was a good evening, a good play, the scenography was amazing, I am so sorry my photo is inadequate. The directorship of the great Liv Ullman was warm, with focus on humans and, in my humble opinion, balancing exceptional between the comical and tragical of Tsjekhov's storytelling.

It's Sunday morning, -10C, the sun is shinning, life is good.

(I wish I had taken more photos. Believe me I tried but they just didn't look good enough.
Yes I know I need to buy a proper camera).

your exciting life

while you clean the kitchen table you turn your head and look at that big orange moon
 through your window

you add some pomegranate to your white tea when the evening feels heavy again
when it rains you put on your blue raincoat,
take the kids out and dance together that Jitterbug dance
between tasks, responsibilities, people talking talking talking and you listening,
(you know you have to listen,
'cause sometimes out of the blue people talk diamonds).

when the world around you seems to have lost any kind of sense
you stay human

you notice that pink cloud flying above you. You know it matters.

when the weather, the seasons, your realities or your mood changes,
you take a bit of chocolate and let it sweeten your aging body,

you plant some flower bulbs and watch them grow

you read your books

you live an exciting life
